Marion Anderson Cantrell

Obituary Date: Friday, April 12, 2019

Marion Anderson Cantrell, better known by everybody as midnight. Was born September 8,1930. Departed this life on April 9,2019 , after and extended illness at the age of 88 yrs old. Born to the late Eunice Kirksey Cantrell and William Anderson Cantrell. He became a member of First Baptist church after moving to Gainesville at the age of 15. He served in the United States Marines from 1951 - 1959 where PFC Marion Anderson Cantrell was trained as a sharpshooter in Camp Lejeune, N.C. and was called Eagle eye in his Ballantine. During his time in the the United States Marines he served during the Korean Conflict where Marion was stationed in Europe for a time. He also served aboard USS RockBridge 1952, and USS Botetourt 1953. Then later transferring into the United Stated Marine Corps where he finished out his career with and Honorable Discharge. After leaving the United States Marine Corp, Marion (midnight) also worked for Adams Tranfer and Storage for about 10 years. Then later in life he had to retire due to an injury he suffered. 


He was preceded in death by his late sisters Gladys Cantrell Scott, Mary Cantrell Mccan and his nephew Walter Gerald Cantrell. He leaves to cherish his memories niece Felicia Cantrell Howard, nephews William Harold Cantrell, William Otis Scott of Gainesville, Ga., great nieces Shannon Howard and Stephanie Cantrell Hall (Kevin Hall) Great nephews Ashley Howard, Eric Cantrell (Bree),Demetrius Cantrell, Travis Cantrell. Great great nieces Jai-Quayla Howard, Monae Cantrell of Gainesville,Ga., Reese Cantrell, Erin Cantrell of South Carolina,and Lakera Howard, Kamesha Howard of Gainesville, Ga., Twanna Williams,Temesha Hall, Erica Hall, Deneshia Newberry of Gainesville, Ga., Great great nephews Rashawn Cantrell, Miguel Cantrell, Maurice Cantrell of South Carolina,Montavious Howard, TyQuon Howard of Gainesville,Ga., Johnathan Scott, William Scott of Chicago, Kevin Hall jr and Demetric Newberry of Gainesville, Ga., And adoptive nieces Sachi Howard and Dishauna Howard of Gainesville, Ga. And a Host of other relatives and friends. 

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at First Baptist Church, 1810 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Gainesville, GA at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2019 at Wimberly Funeral Home, 325 Summit Street, Gainesville, GA 30501, between the hours of 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
