James Aaron Gable, age, 84 of Buford, GA passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Louise Gable; brothers, Otis Gable, Jr. Douglas Gable; sister, Melba Phillips. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Juanita (Jewett) Gable; daughters, Wendy (Scott) Luce, Suwanee, GA, Tracey (Michael) Formato, Buford, GA; sister, Hazel (Horace) Hicks, Shallotte, NC; grandchildren, Ryan Luce, Kelsea Luce-Matson, Catherine Rooks and Joseph Formato. Mr. Gable was born and raised in Iva, SC. After many years of working the family farm, he joined the United States Navy. He loved his time in the military and was very proud to be a veteran.
After the Navy, he returned to civilian life and became a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 926 working as a crane operator. He worked steadily for many years in and around Atlanta. There aren’t many buildings in the Atlanta skyline that Mr. Gable didn’t work on in his many years in construction.
After retiring in 1997, he and his beloved wife, Juanita, settled into a quiet life in Buford, GA. He was an avid gardener. He especially enjoyed growing a huge tomato garden every year to share with his family and friends.
He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He always had a funny story to tell and you could count on him to have a colorful saying for any occasion. He will truly be missed by many.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Iva City cemetery in Iva, South Carolina with the Rev. Bruce W. Evans officiating. Family with receive friends for visitation on Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA
