Mary Theresa Puleo

Obituary Date: Thursday, April 4, 2019

Mary Theresa Puleo of Cumming, Georgia, went to be with Jesus on April 4, 2019 at the age of 95.

Mary was born in Albany, New York on October 15, 1923.  She was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Daniel and Susan Cerone.  In 1941 Mary graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School, in the Bronx.  She married the love of her life, Christopher, on August 26, 1945 at Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Bronx, NY.  They began building a family together and relocated to Queens, NY, eventually settling in Port Jefferson, Long Island until their retirement to Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Mary loved to sing and used her talent at many community events throughout her life.  Often given the honor of opening ceremonies with our National Anthem.  She enjoyed dancing as well.  Mary was a loyal Yankees and Joe DiMaggio fan.  Memories of her singing, “Joe, Joe DiMaggio, we want you on our side”, fill her children’s mind.  She was a wordsmith and avid reader, continually filling in crossword puzzles and beating everyone at scrabble.  She was a lover of family and of her country.  Serving as the President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.  She was active with her church in helping to distribute food to the needy in her community.  Mary worked as a receptionist for a local pediatrician’s office on Long Island.  Her greatest joy in life was being surrounded by her family.

Mary is predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Christopher, her son, Richard, her parents, Daniel and Susan Cerone, her brother, Carmine Cerone and sister, Antoinette Dellairo.

Mary is survived by her sons, Christopher and James, daughter-in-law, Myriam, daughter, Mary Jane Rogan and son-in-law, Kerry Rogan, as well as eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family will be receiving visitors on Sunday, April 7 at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.  A private family funeral is scheduled.  Mary will be laid to rest with her husband at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Gibson, OK, on April 9, 2019.
