Elsie Harrison Scroggs, age 97, of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Habersham Medical Center.
She was born in Habersham County, the daughter of the late George W. and Ardecie Vaughn Harrison and the youngest of seven children.
Mrs. Scroggs was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, S.D. Scroggs, of Cornelia; grandson, Chris Scroggs; son-in-law, Lecil Sorrow; three sisters and three brothers. She was a graduate of Baldwin High School. She excelled as a basketball player, and at Molers Beauty Institute of Atlanta. Mrs. Scroggs was one of the oldest members of Level Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Digging Deeper Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gardening, a pretty yard, and that red craftsmen mower. Mrs. Scroggs was was an avid Braves fan, and self employed as a hairdresser. After retirement, she and her husband were full time campers, she had visited all fifty states. Mrs. Scroggs had good neighbors and many friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Scroggs Sorrow, of Colbert; son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Jackie Scroggs, of Alto; grandson, Casey Scroggs, of Alto; and nieces, nephews, long time friend, Opal Griffin, of Athens; and caregiver, Mary Ann Bates.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Level Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Rice officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2019 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Danny Moody, Clyde Ivester, Roy Perry, Danny Chitwood, Billy Allen, David Nicholson; honorary pallbearer, Casey Scroggs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
