Susan Annette Thompson Ivey

Susan Annette Thompson Ivey, age 57, of Cornelia went home to be with her Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, April 1, 2019.

Mrs. Ivey was born as the fifth daughter of JC and Marie Thompson of Charlie Davis Road in Cornelia, GA. Susan grew up on a farm where she enjoyed spending time with family and her many pets. After graduating from Habersham Central High School in 1979, she attended North Georgia Technical College where she earned a degree in nursing. Susan began practicing as an LPN and loved taking care of patients all over the Northeast Georgia area for over 18 years, before muscular dystrophy took its toll. Throughout the years she worked at Habersham Medical Center, The Oaks at Scenic View Nursing Home, Pruitt Health Care Nursing Home in Toccoa, GA, and Tugaloo Home Health. She was married to Andrew Garrison from Lula, GA for over 19 years and together they raised two sons Bryan Garrison and Michael Garrison, later in 2005 Susan married Dennis Ivey from Cleveland, GA and together she helped raise three more children, Jonathan Allison, Brandy Ivey and Brandon Ivey. Some of her favorite past times for Susan include spending time with family and friends, traveling, (which included visiting 48 states), vacationing and listening to music. Susan was known for her love of babies and children and celebrating Christmas and Easter. She was a very loving, compassionate and generous person. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, JC and Marie Thompson, three brothers-in-law, Victor Wiley, Randall Smith and James Bell, nephews Neal Wilbanks, Jeffrey Henry; niece, Tara Garrison; father in law, Thermon Tell Ivey; brother in law, Ronald “Ronnie” Barry Ivey; and sister-in-law, Sabrina Renee Tench.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Ivey; children and spouses, Bryan and Carrie Garrison, Michael and Rachel Garrison; Step-children and spouse, Jonathan Allison, Brandon and Aimee Ivey, and Brandy Ivey; grandchildren, Madilyn, Jayden, Owen, Ian and Cora Garrison; mother in law, Jane Ivey of Cleveland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Glenda and Herman Wiley, Patricia Wiley Bell, Elaine and Mike Henry, June and Jimmy Mize, Jeannie and Clayton Burrell; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.  

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Thursday, April 4, 2019 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Ken Anderson and the Rev. Ricky Elrod will officiate. Interment will follow at the Shirley Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-9 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
