Willis Herbert 'Herbie' Shirley

Mr. Willis Herbert “Herbie” Shirley, age 62, residing on Lakeland Drive in Toccoa, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

A son of the late Don and Bonnie Sue Cheek Shirley, he was born June 1, 1956 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived the greater part of his life. He was employed with Waffle House, Inc. for thirty-one years and later owned and operated Waffle Houses in Springfield, Missouri for twelve years. He was employed with Stephens County Sheriffs Department for the past ten years, where he served as Deputy Sheriff. Mr. Shirley was a member at Hillstreet Baptist Church, member of the Masonic Lodge, and served as a “Hospital Dad” with the Shriners while in Springfield.  

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dian Allen Shirley of the home, a daughter, Heather and (Lisa) Shirley of Toccoa, a son, Adam and (Emily) Shirley of Athens, Ga., and two brothers, Randy and (Cheryl) Shirley of Martin, Ga. and Mark Shirley of Toccoa.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2019, 4:00 P.M., at Hillstreet Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Paul Garrison and Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating.

The following will serve as pallbearers, Aaron Allen, Reed Ortmann, Matthew Allen, Andrew Allen, Adam Shirley, and Heather Shirley. Pallbearers, please assemble at the funeral home no later than 3:30 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Stephens County Sheriffs Department deputies and employees of the department will serve as honorary escorts. Honorary Escorts, please assemble at Hillstreet Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m.

The family will be at the home on Lakeland Drive, Toccoa, and will receive friends Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Acree-Davis Funeral Home.
