With regret, we announce the passing of John Mann Bowen of Cumming, GA.
John was born to James Oliver Bowen and Mildred Mann on September 24th, 1936 in Decatur, Georgia. He was the second child in the family to his older brother Jimmy, followed by his younger brother, Mack and their little sister, Margret.
John graduated Decatur High School and went on to attend Georgia Tech and the University of Miami. During his time at the University Miami, John and his Mack enjoyed building and racing cars and boats. Later he returned home to Atlanta, where he married his first wife Virginia Wilson. He later remarried Fay on May 3, 1980 in Roswell, GA. He was an avid Falcons football and Yellow Jackets fan and on occasion, when no one was watching you could hear him cheering for the Dawgs. He ran several successful businesses in the Atlanta area over the years and employed many people. For many years he owned and operated several apartment complexes under the corporate entity of Bowen & Perry Realty and later a contracting company, F&B Services. After he retired, he enjoyed boating at his home on Lake Lanier with his wife and boys, but John built and lived with his family in homes in Roswell, Sandy Springs, Crabapple and Cumming throughout his life. He was a Boy Scout, a fraternity brother, a businessman, a contractor, a builder, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother and Uncle. He was many things to many people. But above all, he was a loyal husband, father and friend.
He was a kind, easy going soul who always had a smile and a kind word and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him, especially his family.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Fay Bowen and four boys, John David, Shawn, Stephen and Christopher and five grandchildren; along with many other loving relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in memory of John.
