Bobby Gary Barber, age 86, of Rabun Gap, passed away on Thursday March 21, 2019.
Bobby was born the son of the late Albert T. Barber, and Wade Cook Barber Stephenson on November 16, 1932. In his early career, he worked for Eastern Airlines, and retired as an Airplane Mechanic. He would go on to open his own business, Barber and Son Grading, as well as the Barber Saw Shop, where he would repair and sharpen cutting tools. He was the founder of B.G. Barber Enterprises, which served as a flight school. He enjoyed flying throughout his younger years. Bobby also enjoyed nature, and liked to spend time hunting and fishing. However, he will always be remembered for his work ethic, and how he spend much of his time, working with and repairing heavy equipment.
In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his two brothers, Wayne and Ernest Barber; four sisters, Josephine Pitman, Helen Bennett, Myrtle Cherry, Alberta Ashley.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jean Hopper Barber, of the home; two sons, Jay Barber, of Atlanta, Georgia, Kirk Barber (Penny), of Griffin, Georgia; one daughter, Chrislee Barber Carden (Kevin), of Hapeville, Georgia; one sister, Pat Maloy, of Eastman, Georgia; two grandchildren, Blake Chapman Barber, Caroline Grace Barber.
The family will receive friends on Sunday March 24, 2019 at the Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held on Monday March 25, 2019 at the Beck Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Rev. Doug Volk officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Rabun Memory Park in Tiger, Georgia.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Bobby’s memory to the Food Distribution Ministry at Dillard Methodist Church 5 Betty Whitecloud St, Dillard, GA 30537.
