Mr. Robert Samuel Pittman age 87 of Martin, passed away Wednesday March 5, 2019 at his daughter’s home.
A son of the late Girly and Girtie Burleson Pittman, he was born May 21, 1931 in Mitchell County, North Carolina having lived some of his life in Florida and the last twenty five years in Martin. He was a retired lineman from the city of Fort Pierce, Florida. He was a member of Old Pathways Baptist Church in Bowersville, Georgia and a caretaker of Lakeview Children’s Home in Toccoa. He was also a gifted musician.
Survivors include his wife of the home Margie Shoun Pittman of the home, two daughters and sons-in-law Margaret and Michael Bohannon of Lavonia, Debra and Richard Kirk of Lancaster, South Carolina, four sons and daughters-in-law Robert and Barbara Pittman of Gaffney, South Carolina, Robert and Cindy Pittman of York, South Carolina, Victor Pittman of Martin, David and Beth Pittman of Toccoa, twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, sister Mildred Cochran, half brothers Donald Pittman of North Carolina and Ricky Pittman of California, half sisters Geraldine Williams, Joyce Bush, Dorothy Abernathy, Faye Haynes and Wanda Macauley all of North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 P.M. at Old Pathway Baptist Church with the Reverend Billy Swift officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 P.M. til service time. Interment will follow in Old Pathway Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Darrell Weaver officiating. The family will be at the home in Lavonia and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 P.M. til 8 P.M.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers Stephen Pittman, Michael Pittman, Jeremy Harris, Wesley Carnes, Andy Harris and James Harmon.
