Edmund Wallace Cotter

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 3, 2019

Edmund Wallace Cotter (Eddy) of Atlanta, GA, born October 20, 1919 in East Rockaway, NY, died peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019.  An original member of the Army-Air Corps in World War II, Eddy is preceded in death by the love of his life, Alice Collins Cotter, by his parents and his siblings.  He is survived by his loving family:  daughters Christine Cotter of Atlanta, GA; Judy Bidwell and husband, Ted, of Gloucester, MA; grandson Jason Bidwell and wife, Tara Leigh Testa, of Boston, MA; and great-granddaughter Winnifred Blue Bidwell of Boston, MA; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.

Eddy and Alice danced through 67 years of marriage together, travelling the world and making friends wherever they went.  He continued travelling as long as he could … visiting Gloucester frequently and even made a trip to Italy in 2012 at age 92.  The Italians welcomed him as a war hero in every town he visited.  An avid golfer, Eddy loved sports of all kinds.  A former football player, he could always be seen wearing his UGA Bulldog game day shirt on Saturdays in the fall.  He waited impatiently for baseball season every spring.  He could talk game plans and strategies about his favorite teams and players up until the end of his life.

A combined memorial service/birthday party is planned for October 19, 2019 at Cathedral Towers in Atlanta.  In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia, Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church of Atlanta, or a favored charity of your choice.
