Linda Joe Thorpe age 70 of Oakwood, GA was born on March 26, 1948 in Gainesville, GA, Hall County to Clarence and Mary Brown. She attended school in Gainesville, GA. She worked for Gainesville Manufacturing and Dundee Mills before finally settling at the place she called her second home, Walmart. She worked the last 10 years at Walmart where she was lovingly known as “Ms. Linda”. She had a quiet generous spirit and she was loved by all who knew her. She loved to cook and bake, especially for the holidays. It was never a surprise to see a table full of red velvet cakes, carrot cakes, pecan pies, sweet potato pies, banana pudding and those rice krispy treats. There was always two of each, one to eat while you were at her house and one to take home. Christmas was by far her favorite time of the year. Although she worked most Holidays, she was off on Christmas Day. She found so much joy in just watching the faces of her grandchildren opening gifts. She was never one to pass up a “Good Deal” at Walmart, so the kids enjoyed all the “Free Shopping” opportunities when they went to Nana’s house.
She was most proud of the fact that her children were each successful in their own rite. She can rest well knowing that her latter years were definitely her greater years.
She peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in her home.
Her loving presence will be forever cherished by her children: Kimberly Carithers of Braselton, GA, Kerry (Sandy) Butts of Flowery Branch, Derek Butts of Denver Colorado, Gregory (Christi) Smith of Dumfries Virginia, Apryl (Orenthal) Gates of Ellenwood, GA, Robert (Wendy) Thorpe III of Decatur, GA, Stephanie (Demond) Jones of Stone Mountain, GA, Christopher (Eva) Thorpe of Lancaster, SC, and Anthony Thorpe of Atlanta, GA.
Affectionately known as “Nana”, she will be forever in the hearts of her grandchildren: Christopher (Shataya) Carithers, Paul, Corey, Brianna Butts, Lavone Early, Dominick Butts, Anslee Smith, Yemia and Oryn Gates, Ethan, Harper and Samuel Thorpe, Dakota Sheppard, Elizabeth and Alexandria Jones, Isabella and Oliva Thorpe.
