Jane Ellen Crumbaker Uterhardt

Obituary Date: Monday, February 25, 2019

Jane Uterhardt

2/20/1945-2/21/2019

Jane Ellen Crumbaker was born in New Martinsville, WV on February 20, 1945. She grew up in Baltimore, MD, where she attended the local elementary school.

When it came time for high school, she took public transportation to Eastern High, an all-girls school downtown. Jane loved taking care of people and became a Candy

Striper at John’s Hopkins Hospital, and later completed her schooling to become an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse).

Jane wanted to see the West Coast, so after graduating from nursing school, she traveled to San Diego, CA to visit a friend and stayed, getting a job as a surgical nurse

at the local hospital. One night in March of 1966 she went to a USO Dance and found a guy who, as he describes the evening, “I looked out over the dance floor and saw a

girl a head taller than all the rest, and I had to meet that girl! We’ve been dating ever since”.

October 23, 1966 George Uterhardt married Jane Crumbaker. Since George was in the Navy Band, this made Jane a military wife. They had several adventures together,

beginning with Jane flying to meet George in Hawaii for their 1st Anniversary, followed by her flying to Europe to meet his ship, then traveling around by train and spending a

night in the Mojave Desert (and “freezing”!). They traveled cross country by Volkswagen Beetle with their dog Skipper, visiting family in several states.

Kids started to come into the picture in 1972 and slowed their travels down some - but not their adventures. Jane helped people in many ways and was always looking

for different ways to help her children learn new things and make money. She was involved in teaching Sunday School and VBS, costuming for numerous theatres, and

sewing for the general public as well as for family and friends. Jane and George lived in 5 different states during their time together. The 5th state

was here - Georgia - where they lived in Stone Mountain for 28 years. Jane is survived by her husband, George Uterhardt; Children, Geoff (Barbara)

Uterhardt of Georgia, Jennifer (Martin) Taylor of Georgia, Jon Uterhardt (Rheniel Paclibar) of Nevada; and Grandchildren, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Sarah and Arabella.

You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. Psalm 16:11  Graveside services will be held Monday, March

4, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton Georgia with Rev. Alan Johnson Officiating.
