Mrs. Polly Ann Whitmire Snyder, age 81 of Toccoa passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Arbor Day Terrace in Dacula, Georgia following a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
One of eight siblings of the late Yoda J. and Pearl Davis Whitmire, she was born May 4, 1937 in Toccoa, Georgia. She was a graduate of Toccoa High School Class of 1955 and Piedmont College a few years later with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught elementary school, mainly second grade in Stephens County for 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa her entire life. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Toccoa Elks Club. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and aunt. She loved teaching her second grade students. Many of her students were the sons and daughters of those she had previously taught. She loved spending time with family and friends. She loved the large Whitmire family reunions on Lake Rabun held for many years during the week of July 4th. Traveling with Lynn and Marilyn to visit family and go on vacation was a favorite activity. During her retirement years she enjoyed the daily lunch with her sister Lillian. The light of her life was her two granddaughters which she helped raise. Even though she was in memory care the last few years, she always asked her daughter, “Where are your babies?” whenever Marilyn would visit without Jenna and Kara.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Snyder and by her siblings, Quinton Whitmire, Lillian Mitchell, Robert Whitmire, Asbury Whitmire and Myrtis Moore.
