Suzanne Marie Byrd, 79, passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 8, 2019 in Toccoa, Georgia.
A daughter of the late Albert Neven Knepp and Doris Gould Knepp, she was born August 18, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan. She was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas, and moved to Toccoa in 2018. She was a retired human resource manager and bookkeeper. An active member of Cypress United Methodist Church in Cypress, Texas for many years, she was a highly involved member of the Sunday School ministries and an integral part of building the CAPS program for seniors. She was a friend to everyone she met and could always be counted on to be there and get things done in time of need. She was a people person and had a knack for drawing people out to become more socially alive. She was always the first to volunteer to host an evening of board games and fellowship. As a newcomer to Toccoa, she joined the Toccoa First United Methodist Church and had plans to continue her passion for community involvement in the North Georgia area.
She was preceded in death by husbands Richard M. Whitehead, Dale M. Chambliss, and Wyndol C. Byrd. She was also predeceased by her brothers Robert W. Knepp, Dannie Ray Knepp and John A. Knepp and by a sister, Marlene Trost all from Michigan.
Survivors include sisters Barbara Pulice and Mary Edgerton of Michigan; daughter, Mary Ann Hayes and husband Doran of California; sons, Gary R. Whitehead and wife Judith of South Carolina and John M. Whitehead and wife Karen of California; and five grandchildren: Christine Whitehead of Georgia, Jessica and Matthew Hayes of California and Sean and Dylan Whitehead of California.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2019, 1 O’clock p.m. at Toccoa First United Methodist Church, 333 E. Tugalo St., Toccoa, Georgia with The Reverend Dr. John Brown officiating.
