Edward Alexander Carew, age 97 of Clarkesville, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019.
Mr. Carew was born July 20, 1921 in New York, NY to the late Daniel Joseph Carew and Margaret Cape Carew. Edward moved from Gainesville to Clarkesville in 2011, prior to that he lived in Dekalb County from 1968-2006. Edward served in the United States Marine Corps, serving in the South Pacific during World War II, he was very instrumental in the invasion of Peleliu and during his time he served in Okinawa, Japan, the Asiatic Pacific area, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Australia. Following his time in the military Edward worked a correctional officer and was of the Catholic Faith. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Carew, daughters, Catherine “Penny” Christie, Patricia Srack and son, Daniel Carew.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Ronnie Huff, Clarkesville, GA; Margaret and Ernie Watson, Boulder Creek, CA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens, 722 Conley Dr. Forest Park, GA 30297-1012.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 P.M. Monday, February 18, 2019 at Barrett Funeral Home.
