Ethel L. Gibson Whelchel

Ethel L. Gibson Whelchel, 94, of Gainesville, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Harris officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, February 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.

Born on November 30, 1924 in Pine Hill KY, she was the daughter of the late Oden E. and Pearl Mae Cain Gibson. She was the last surviving member of her family. Mrs. Whelchel was employed with Walmart where she worked in several departments including the fabric department where she was the manager. Mrs. Whelchel loved quilting and reading.  She was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church.

Mrs. Whelchel is survived by her daughter, Jan Lewallen (Bobby) of Gainesville; daughter, Debra Megrue (Jeff) of McDonough; son, Howard “Tony” Whelchel (Donna) of Gainesville; grandchildren, Matthew Megrue, Joseph Megrue, Jonathan Megrue, Steve Whelchel, Ricky Whelchel; great grandson, Carter Megrue; great granddaughter, Tristin Waldour.
