James Jackson “Jack” Hough, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2019. He was born July 19, 1945 in Decatur, Alabama. Jack graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Alabama and remained an avid fan for life. Jack served in the Air Force. While stationed in Turkey, he served in the Intelligence Service. Jack felt that joining the Air Force “was one of the best things he ever did.” He went on to achieve a Masters in Banking from LSU. He worked in the banking industry for 9 years.Jack moved to Georgia in 1984 to work for Innsbruck Realty, Inc in Helen, Georgia. He was known to be a true entrepreneur, forward thinking and ahead of his time. While in Helen, he was instrumental in developing the Bavarian concept. Jack started in the restaurant business in Helen in the late eighties. He expanded from a single yogurt shop into the Main Street Eatery a few years later. In the early nineties he pioneered the consolidated food court concept and expanded successfully into outlet centers. In 2000, Jack partnered with Pete Wenzell and entered the airport concession business. At that time he changed the name to MSE Branded Foods. Since then, the company has become an industry leader. With Jacks leadership, MSE Branded Foods has won many awards for its accomplishments, including the 2016 Entrepreneurs Masters of Innovation Award. Jack was a well-known and loved member of his community. He was a member of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church and a member of Cross Ties Sunday School class. He was the President of the Wall Street Club, a member of Rotary Club of Gainesville and a Founding Director of the Chattahoochee Bank of a Georgia.He was married to Gail Attaway Davis on November 22, 2014. He is survived by his wife, his son Brandon Hough and his brother Don and sister-in-law Cathy Hough and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred and Burford Hough.
Jack was a philanthropist in the Gainesville community and supported numerous charities. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to two of Jack’s favorite charities: We Care - 615 Oak Street #F1300 Gainesville, GA 30501 and Gainesville First United Methodist Church 2780 Thompson Bridge Road Gainesville, GA 30501.
The family will receive family and friends for a Celebration of Life at the Chattahoochee Country Club on Sunday evening from 5-7.
Celebration of Life of Life Service will be held at the Gainesville First United Methodist Church 2780 Thompson Bridge Road Gainesville, GA.
Monday, February 11th at 11:00 am, with a reception in the Gathering Room afterward the service.
