Dorothy (Dot) Sharp Sparkman, 83, departed for heaven on February 5, 2019. Interment will take place on Friday, March 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the Thompson Cemetery, Prentiss, MS. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019, 1 p.m., at the McLaurin Heights Baptist Church in Pearl, MS. Visitation will follow the service. Mrs. Sparkman was born on May 9, 1935 in Vernon, TX to George Charley and Irene Muller Sharp. Dot was a graduate of the Mississippi State College for Women and spent many years teaching at Pontotoc Elementary, Kemper Academy, and East Kemper Elementary. She was also a longtime Sunday school teacher in the churches where she served. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 35 years, Robert Roderick Sparkman, Sr.; sisters, Margaret Dunlap of Tyler, TX and Carolyn Bailey of Pearl, MS. Survivors include her children, Robert Roderick Sparkman, Jr. of Pearl, MS; Nancy Fields (Bruce) of Gainesville, GA; and David Sparkman (Kelly) of Pittsburg, PA; five grandchildren, Daniel (Allyson) Fields, Lydia (Katy) Wilson-Fields, Andrew Fields, Tyler Sparkman and Connor Sparkman; one great-grandchild, Brooklynn Elizabeth Fields; and two siblings, Barbara Vanderpool of Tyler, TX, and Charles Sharp of Water Valley, MS.
