Broughton J. Brooks

Broughton J. Brooks, age 94, of Buford, GA passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019. He was preceded in death by son, Prince L. Brooks; parents, Russell and Ada Brooks; several brothers; and one sister.  Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of seventy-three years, Emmaline Malcolm Brooks, Buford; son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Mary Brooks, Jonesboro, GA; daughter, Loretha Brooks Cantrell, Buford; grandchildren, Cassandra and Marlon Wade, Buford, and Rita Brooks, Lawrenceville; great grandchildren, Quintiva Bledson, Dione Bledson, Tiara Nolley, and Torrey Nolley; two great great grandchildren, Aiden and Kinsley; brother-in-law, Frank and Bernice Malcolm, North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Brooks was born on July 26, 1924 in Buford, GA. He was retired from Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Office after seventeen years of service. His work career included working at Bona Allen Company, Quality Foods, Winn Dixie, and with Billy Cain at Moreno Press. Mr. Brooks was a funeral assistant for twenty years for Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford. He was a long time member and deacon of Union Baptist Church in Buford, GA where he served on the Deacon Board. Mr. Brooks was a Mason. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 2:30 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Teffeny Pierce officiating. Mr. Brooks will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, February 2, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
