Florence Elizabeth Shaw Toth, of the Gardens of Gainesville, passed away peacefully at the age of 94, on January 29, 2019, while in hospice care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 2, at 3:00 p.m., and there will be funeral services following at 4:00 p.m., at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Drive, Gainesville, Georgia 30501. Elizabeth was born in Bladenboro, North Carolina, on October 15, 1924 to Victor and Mildred Shaw. She graduated from Bladenboro High School in 1941 with honors, and moved to Columbia, South Carolina to work and attend Columbia Women’s Business College.
On August 1, 1954, Elizabeth married Ralph Edward Toth at Fort Jackson’s Post Chapel. She spent the next thirty years raising four children. She worked as a bookkeeper and was very active in her many communities. She was a Gray Lady and she taught Sunday school in her local church until the age of 88.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ralph Edward Toth; sister Doris Shaw; daughter Deborah Toth Armenti and granddaughter Jennifer Gruenfeld Beedy.
Elizabeth is survived by daughters Elizabeth Toth Crowder of Flowery Branch, Georgia; Linda Toth James of Clayton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Allison Toth of Suwanee, Georgia; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mrs. Toth is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Bo James Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Rabun County Board of Education, 963 Tiger Connector, Tiger, Georgia 30576, or the Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214, in memory of Mrs. Toth.
