Ray Gibson, age 54, of Sandy Springs, Georgia passed away Friday, January 25, 2019. Ray is survived by his mother Patricia Ann Hulsey, of Cumming, Georgia, sister and brother-in-law Jennifer and Allen Welch, of Suwanee, Georgia, nephews Dylan and Westin Welch, niece Summer Welch, and many other cousins and extended family all of whom he loved dearly.
Ray’s motto in life was, “Live! Live! Live!” and he did just that. Ray lived in Cairo, Egypt for many years where he taught English and was the program director for a private school, New Horizons. He established the school’s first library for which he delighted in choosing all the books. In addition, he lived briefly in Athens, Greece and Istanbul, Turkey. Ray loved to travel and visited many countries throughout Europe and neighboring areas. Ray’s passion was reading and he loved collecting books and was himself also an author. He was a member of the Atlanta Writer’s Club. He was a kind, extraordinarily generous man who was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed one. He was beloved by many people and will always be remembered for his uplifting, exuberant spirit.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 1 to 1:30pm at McDonald and Son Funeral Home with a celebration of life service following at 1:30pm in the Chapel.
Immediately following the service, we will continue celebrating Ray’s life with a reception at the home of Jennifer and Allen Welch, 5190 Wickingham Lane, Suwanee, Georgia 30024.
