Stephen (Steve) Morgan Canada age 81 passed away on January 22, 2019.
Steve was born September 1, 1937 in Chicopee, GA to the late Harmon and Mozelle Canada. He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Geraldine Canada; sister, Violet Marie Woods, brothers, Michael Canada and Manley Canada.
Beginning in 1954, Steve served our country in the United States Army, starting his basic training at Ft. Benning, GA. He then followed for advanced training at Ft. Jackson, SC. For his permanent assignment, Steve was transferred back to Ft. Benning to serve with the military police motorcycle brigade. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1958 serving for two years. When Steve returned to civilian life, he pursued a career as a Master electrician and plumber. He built a successful business throughout the next 40 plus years, as Steve loved helping others and had a friendly smile for everyone he met.
Steve was a member of the Gainesville Lodge F & AM 219 and Lanier Shrine Club. Steve also served with the Masons and Shriners for over 50 years, which gave him great joy.
Steve is survived by his sons, Stephen Thomas Canada and Kevin Rex Canada both of Gainesville; two grandchildren, Kasey Canada of Roanoke, VA and Molly (Derek) Watkins of Lula; six great grandchildren, Bethany, Alexis, Kinslee and Braelyn Watkins, Keegan and Brantley Canada; sisters, Mae Evelyn Roberts of Jonesboro, Gloria Canada Aultman of Griffin; brother, Adrian (Nancy) Canada of Gainesville; sisters in law, Shirley Canada and Liz Poole both of Gainesville; Steve’s best friend and faithful companion, Betty Sue Lewallen.
Visitation for Steve will be held from 4:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Lee and friend Don Palmour speaking. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
At the family’s request all Masons and Shriners are asked to serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
