John (Matt) Matthew Murphy

John (Matt) Matthew Murphy, Sr, age 50, of Gainesville, GA, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019. Matt was born in 1968, to former Senator Jack and Brenda Murphy. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Dawsonville, GA. While attending the church, he became an Usher during the services. Matt coached many little league ball games in Forsyth County. He worked on the Forsyth County planning commission. Matt enjoyed tending to his horses and loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, son, father, brother and friend. He is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Murphy and step-brother, Brian Potter.

Matt lives on through his loving wife, Lynn Murphy; father and step-mother, former Senator Jack (Linda) Murphy; children, Cameron Walls, John Matthew Murphy, Jr. and Madison Murphy; siblings, Steve (Gill) Murphy, Brian (Michael) Murphy, Charlotte Finver; step siblings, David (Susan) Potter and Julie Mills; along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services from Matt will be Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Dawsonville, GA, with Rev. Charles Blackstock officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Haven Cemetery in Douglasville, GA at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
