Harold Eugene “George” Bellamy, 74, of Gainesville passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Harris officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Born on February 24, 1944 in Banks County, he was the son of the late Lon and Mertie Osborne Bellamy. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation where he worked as a mechanic. He retired having worked for the State of Georgia for over thirty years. Harold was a jack of all trades who enjoyed sharing his skills to help friends, family, and neighbors. He was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren who knew him as “Pap” and was an avid NASCAR fan who loved antique Studebakers.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bellamy is preceded in death by his sisters, Jenna Lou Poole, Elise Ward, Thelma Williams, Evelyn Frady and brothers, Lloyd Bellamy and Ralph Bellamy.
Mr. Bellamy is survived by his wife, Shirley Bellamy of Gainesville; son and daughter in law, Mark and Beth Bellamy of Clarkesville; step-daughter and son in law, Tina and David Stover of Gainesville; grandsons, Kyle Bellamy and wife Jessica, Brett Bellamy and wife Emily; granddaughters, Makayla Grizzle and husband Josh, Melanie Stover; grandson, Clay Stover; great grandchildren, Maxwell Bellamy, Elsie Bellamy, Milo Bellamy; Lucy Bellamy. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Merck and husband Charles of Gainesville and his brother in law, Fred Frady of Gainesville along with numerous relatives.
