Vernon Wooley, age 91 of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
Born in Galveston, Texas on January 3, 1928, he was a son of the late Gaddis Hugh and Emily Eliza Stafford Wooley. Mr. Wooley proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a fireman first class. After service he became a self-employed contractor/ carpenter. Mr. Wooley was the first licensed goat farmer in the state of Montana where he lived from 1972 until 2006 before moving to White County, Georgia. He enjoyed wood working, making things for others and was a very giving person.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Surviving are his loving wife of 72 years, Virgilyn Joy Burns Wooley of Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Vernita Joy Jenkins & Frank of Hoschton; grandchildren and spouses, Richard Jenkins & Jackie, Candice McDaniel & Kevin, Sheila Borgen & David, Chelsea Posey & Taylor; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are scheduled for 3:30 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Allen Borgen officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, the Habersham County American Legion Post #84 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter #15 and the United States Navy honor guard.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
