Mr. Kent Sterling Lynn, age 47, of Flowery Branch passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Christ Place Chapel (a.k.a. Former Worship Center). Rev. Jeff Crook and Rev. Rick Hermann will officiate. The family will receive friends 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Church.
Sterling was born March 24, 1971 to Rev. Tom & Gail Evelyn Lynn in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sterling is the spiritual leader and husband of his precious wife, Danielle and father to his 2 daughters Jessica (24) and Casey (20) and son Dakota (12). Sterling’s sister is Melodee DeVevo, she and her husband Juan DeVevo are members of Casting Crowns, a contemporary Christian Rock Band. Sterling is uncle to her two children, nephew Jesse (11) and niece Rory (10). He is the only son to Tom and Gail Lynn of McDonough. Sterling grew up in the Lord while his Dad served as a Music Pastor of First Baptist Daytona Beach, Florida. He graduated from Spruce Creek High School, Daytona Beach, Florida in 1989. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Ministry with an Emphasis in Youth from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1995. He continued his education earning two Master’s Degrees from Liberty University. Sterling devoted his life to serving our Jesus Christ personally and professionally. He served as a Youth and Music Pastor at Flomich Avenue Baptist Church for 3 years in Holly Hill, Florida and then as Youth and Music Pastor at First Baptist Wasilla, Alaska for 2 years. Then as Youth Pastor at Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke, Florida for 4 years. Sterling and his family came to Flowery Branch in 2001 to serve at Blackshear Place Baptist Church, now Christ Place Church. He has worked with every age group at Christ Place and led students as their Youth Pastor. He also served as College Pastor, Evangelism and Sunday School Pastor, Men’s Pastor, Leadership Pastor and FCA Chaplain for Johnson High School. He created “Man Ventures” to expose men to the Gospel of Jesus Christ outside of the typical church setting. His goal is to connect with other men to create a community of godly men challenging them to honor God in every facet of life. His passion is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met so people would know where they will spend eternity. He will be greatly missed. Sterling knew his need for grace and lived to share that need with others. Tom & Gail Evelyn Lynn of McDonough; sister & brother-in-law, Melodee & Juan DeVevo of McDonough; niece, Rory DeVevo; nephew, Jesse DeVevo; and mother-in-law, Mary Jo Ruth of Flowery Branch.
