Frances Wellborn Barrett, age 84, passed away at her home in Ashburn, Virginia, on Friday, January 4, 2018. She was born on May 5, 1934 in Ashland, Alabama to William Eldridge and Bonnie Mae (Horn) Wellborn. Frances graduated from Sylvan High School in Atlanta, Georgia and attended the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia. On September 5, 1953, she married Jonathan Reed Barrett III. Together, they had three sons, Jonathan, Gregory and Christopher. Frances was an avid gardener, home maker and the consummate host. Being a wife of an Army Colonel, Frances and the family lived in numerous locations in the US as well as Worms, Germany and Seoul, Korea. After retiring to Jacksonville, Florida, Frances was an active member of the Mandarin Garden Club and an engaged parishioner at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior. Over the years, she worked in a framing shop and as a day care provider. She loved little children until her final days as well as the many Chinese Pugs that shared her home over the years.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Reed and her sons as well as her sisters Shirley O’Neal and Janette Leathers, daughters-in-law Laura Bender Barrett and Patricia Farrar Barrett, son-in law Kevin Moran, grandchildren Stephen Barrett, Reed Barrett, Connor Barrett and Brendan Barrett and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm at McDonald and Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Dr, Cumming, GA 30040. Burial will follow at Sawnee View Gardens Cemetery. A reception at the funeral home will follow the interment. Please make contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
