Edith Shedd Hollifield, age 94, of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on December 28, 2018 with her loved ones surrounding her.
Edith was born the daughter to the late Etna Shedd and Lizzie Crone Shedd in 1924.
Upon graduation from Tallulah Falls High School, Edith went to work in Oak Ridge, Tennessee on the Manhattan Project, where she held Top Secret clearance. After the end of the war, she and her husband, the late Coyle Ervin Hollifield, opened a gas station and general store. Edith also spent time working as a rural mail carrier and managed the property that they acquired. Throughout her life she loved to garden and to travel, and to take in stray animals and nurse them back to health.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Coyle Ervin Hollifield; her two brothers, Earl Lloyd Shedd and William Grover Shedd; her sister, Patricia Geach.
Her survivors include her son, Dr. Mike Hollifield, of Gainesville, Georgia; her daughter, Brenda Hollifield, of Los Angeles, California; her two grandchildren, Marena Elise Hollifield Kiely, of Atlanta, Georgia, Bailey Nicole DeBanto, of Los Angeles, California.
The family will receive friends on Saturday December 29, 2018 at the Beck Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday December 30, 2018 at the Tiger Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Tim Hunnicutt and Rev. James Turpen officiating.
Burial will follow the service in the Tiger Cemetery.
