Betty Jean Funk, age 89, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018.
Born on July 6, 1929 in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Godfrey Martin and Essie Pearl Hefner Funk. Mrs. Funk retired from Baldwin Garment Company after many years of service. She volunteered with the Sharing and Caring and was a local poll worker for many years. In her spare time, Mrs. Funk enjoyed reading, flowers, gardening and seeing the forests and wildlife on rides through the mountains and Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area with her great nephew, Kendall Green.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Funk was also preceded in death by a grandson, Adam Hicks; sister, Emma Mae Hunter; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey and Hazel Funk, Godfrey, Jr. and Patty Funk, George Arthur Funk and Ralph Funk; brothers-in-law, Tommy Powell and Lloyd Chambers.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Stanley Brooks of McDonough, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lera Hicks of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Allison Shultz Smith of McDonough, Stuart P. and Megan Brooks of Dallas, Georgia and Amy Hicks Bevers of St. George Island, Florida; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Agnes Green Powell of Mt. Airy and Bonnie Lee Chambers of Lilburn, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Funk of Homer; sister-in-law, Mary Funk of Cornelia; special nieces, Judy Pitts of Mt. Airy and Gloria Wade of Cornelia; numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 2 pm on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Billy Burrell and Rev. Larry Ryals officiating. Interment will follow in Welcome Home Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday and from 12-2 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
