Mildred 'Millie' Lanier Flury

Mildred “Millie” Lanier Flury, age 89, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018.

Millie was born in Atlanta, Georgia but lived much of her adult life in Jacksonville, Florida.  She was a homemaker early in her 63 year marriage but eventually became a retail buyer for a specialty women’s boutique in Jacksonville.  

As a newlywed, she and Carl, her husband, were stationed in Africa during his duty in the navy, but they soon returned to Atlanta.  At this time, Millie worked for a downtown retailer and helped put Carl through law school while he worked for the Atlanta Transit Authority.  Soon their lives through employment, took them to Jacksonville.  At retirement, they moved to Maggie Valley, NC and after several winters of being snow bound they settled in Clarkesville, Ga.  Millie & Carl loved to travel and visited many Caribbean islands, Hawaii and enjoyed the US from coast to coast.

Family was always the core value of the Flury family and spiritual faith and church were their anchors. Income was modest but family experiences, memories and love for one another were great. Millie lived by example and raised her only child by showing her the importance of volunteering, sharing and caring for others, being responsible for your own actions and being financially responsible.

Millie enjoyed a happy life and was deeply loved by her deceased husband  Carl Flury and surviving daughter, Jana Flury.   All other family has gone on before to be with our Lord.

Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Phil DeMore officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in memory Of Millie with any of the following organizations.  Smithgall Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, NE GA Chapter, Clarkesville FUMC Community Thrift Store.
