Ruth Hepis Slater, age 79 of Commerce, GA passed away Saturday, December 15th at Hill Haven Nursing Home.
Ms. Slater was born in Commerce, GA on July 1st, 1939 to the late Lee and Eula Davis Elrod. She was a Store Clerk at Center Grocery, which she and her husband, the late James Charles Slater, owned and operated. Ms. Slater was a member of Tyrus Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, Ms. Slater was preceded in death by a daughter, Cherry Stiwinter, and a grandson, Bubba Morgan.
Survivors include daughters, Eula Diane McIntyre of Athens, GA, Edith Slater of Jefferson, GA, Brenda Getter of Commerce, GA, and Barbara Morgan of Jefferson, GA; brothers, Charles Elrod and Dale Elrod, both of Commerce, GA. Ms. Slater is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 18th at 3:00PM at Tyrus Baptist Church, with Rev. Bo Whisnant and Rev. Wes King officiating. Burial will follow in the Nicholson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00-8:00PM on Monday.
