Judith Deanna Clodfelter Canady Dodge

Judith Deanna Clodfelter Canady Dodge, 77, of Gainesville, Georgia passed away December 5, 2018 at Lanier Village Estates with her husband Chip at her side.  Judy was born on October 22, 1941 in High Point, North Carolina; the daughter of the late Charles and Rosa Lee Poole Clodfelter.  She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Harlow “Chip” Dodge, her daughter, Jennifer Canady O’ Neil, her grandson Ian O’Neil, and her granddaughter Kate O’Neil.  She is also survived by her step son Harlow F. Dodge (Conni), Harlow’s extended family, her close cousin Shayland (Kenny) Edwards and their two daughters, her aunt Virginia (Sissy) Martin, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in the Poole and Clodfelter families.

Judy was a 1959 graduate of Jamestown High School in Jamestown (High Point), North Carolina, a 1961 graduate of Mars Hill Junior College, and a 1963 graduate of University of North Carolina – Greensboro (then known as “Women’s College” or “WC”.

Judy was always a very active person.  After college and her first marriage, she was an elementary school teacher in Marietta, GA, then a librarian, first at NC State University, then at a hospital in Charlotte, NC, then at businesses in both Charlotte and in Atlanta.  After her marriage to Chip, Judy was very proud to be instrumental in building a new library as a volunteer at her new church home, Dunwoody United Methodist Church in Atlanta.  She was very active in the Church and Synagogue Library Association (CSLA).  Judy was also an active member of the Dunwoody Women’s Club  as well as the United Methodist Women in both Atlanta and Gainesville.

Judy was always active with people in need.  She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society in Charlotte, and she was a host family for several foreign exchange students both in Charlotte and Atlanta under the auspices of the AFS (American Field Service) foreign exchange program.  She was a “sighted guide” for a good friend and professional story teller, Fiona Page.  Judy was a Stephen Ministry Training Leader at Dunwoody United Methodist Church as well as a Stephen Minister.  After moving to Lanier Village Estates (LVE), Judy enjoyed many activities, both volunteer and social.  She was a writer for the LVE Village Voice, a volunteer for the LVE and the Gainesville First United Methodist Church libraries, a member of the United Methodist Women, a Stephen Ministry Leader, and an active writer for the LVE Memoir Writers Group.  Judy enjoyed various LVE exercise groups as well as playing bridge and Mah Jongg.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Drive, Gainesville 30501.  Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Park Chapel on Monday, December 17^th.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, December 18^th at 4:00 PM at Gainesville First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Carolyn Clifton Officiating.  Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia in a private family committal service on Wednesday, December 19^th.
