Mary Haynes Tanner, 91, of Tucker, Georgia, passed away December 4, 2018 from complications due to congestive heart failure.
Mary was born in Savannah, Georgia, on November 17, 1927, to Dr. Robert Exley and Mrs. Lyda Ann Exley. In 1947 Mary married Earl Clark Haynes of Atlanta. The couple had four children. Mary Haynes Tanner was married for 43 years to Earl C. Haynes. After being a widow for a few years, she married Mr. Jack Tanner of Tucker, Georgia.
Mary Haynes Tanner is survived by her four children, Linda Herman and Robert Herman of Dahlonega, Sam and Jenny Herman of Alpharetta; Robert C. Haynes and Chooi Haynes of Palmdale, California; Susan Kay Bartlett of Savannah; and, David C. Haynes and Donna Haynes of Smyrna. There are ten beloved grandchildren and eight precious great-grandchildren.
Mary Haynes Tanner was a strong Christian mother and grandmother. Mary retired from her work as a department store clerk and a small business owner. She was a March of Dimes volunteer and an Emory Hospital volunteer for many years. Mary loved her church, First Baptist of Tucker. She dearly loved her close friends, Inez, Mary, Holly, and Jean. Mary volunteered with the March of Dimes for many years, and after retiring she volunteered for more than 1,000 hours at Emory Hospital.
A visitation will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home in Dahlonega, Saturday, December 8, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. This will be followed by a brief graveside prayer and memory celebration at 4 p.m. at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia.
