Mr. William Stark Mayhue, age 71 of Moreland Drive, Toccoa passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at his residence.
A son of the late Stark and Opal Hendrix Mayhue, he was born October 10, 1947 in Joplin, Missouri having lived in Toccoa for the past 10 years. He began preaching full time in May, 1981 and serving in various congregations of the Church of Christ in Texas, Oklahoma, Tennessee ad Georgia. He did mission work in Czechoslovakia, having traveled there three different times in the 90’s. One of his first converts, a woman with her daughter, he traveled to Oklahoma and spent a weekend in their home. These mission efforts were a highlight of his life. He has stayed in contact with some of these people through the years. One of his prized students was Milan Dubcheck, son of Alexander Dubcheck. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran during the Vietnam War. He served as the Minister of Toccoa Church of Christ for the past 10 years. He fostered 70 children throughout the years. He loved his family dearly and his many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jonus Benton.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Linda Miller Mayhue of the home; five adopted children, two of which are grown and three of the home; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Victoria, Joshua, James and Alex; brother, Norman (Gayle) Mayhue) of Lawton, Oklahoma; sister, Rebecca Mayhue of Lawrence, Kansas.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018, 11 O’clock a.m. at Toccoa Church of Christ with Mr. Robbie Eversole, Mr. Ed Beard, Mr. Ed Boggess and Mr. Jim Russell officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Aubrey Prestridge, Terry Phelps, Jeremy Green, Jerry Green, Robert Gunn and Ed Beard.
The family will be at the home on Moreland Drive and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Rabun County Church of Christ Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. William Stark Mayhue.
