Donna Irene Failyer, 96, of Gainesville passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at New Horizons following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Father Tim Hepburn and Pastor Bryan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Born on August 16, 1922 in Ottumwa, Iowa she was the daughter of the late Ray and Grace Davis. She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. In addition to her family, she was a volunteer at Bright Spot Café (Hall County Hospital now Northeast Georgia Medical Center) where she was instrumental in fund raising efforts to purchase the first infant incubator. Shortly thereafter her twins Danny and Randy born prematurely were put in the incubator for several weeks until their release from the hospital. She was a member of American Legion Post 7 Ladies Auxiliary for 66 years. She was an avid volunteer serving in several different roles during her membership. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Failyer was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Failyer; son, Danny Failyer and brother, Ray Davis, Jr.
Mrs. Failyer is survived by her son and daughter in law, Randy and Lorna Failyer of Gainesville; son and daughter in law, Philip and Linda Failyer; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ellen Fligg of W. Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Ronald Davis of Ottumwa, Iowa; sister in law, Cecelia Durflinger of Ottumwa, Iowa and a number of other relatives.
