Mr. Calvin Freeman Culpepper, 81 of Toccoa, Georgia went home to be with his Lord Saturday, December 1, 2018 in hospice care, Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
He was born February 2, 1937 in Franklin County, Georgia, the son of the late Luna Blanche and Hoke Culpepper. He was the middle son of three siblings. On October 6, 1956 he married his beautiful bride, Amelia Herron Culpepper. He lived the majority of his life in Stephens County.
Calvin served with the National Guard Reserves for eight years. He retired from Coats and Clark with 43 years of service, as well as working at Stephens County High School for a while. He inherited his knowledge and love for carpentry from his father. It was his pleasure to remodel and build houses for years as well as his children’s home after retirement.
He dearly loved his church, New Bethel Baptist Church and his church family. He served in many areas of ministry including deacon for many years. His hobbies included carpentry and woodworking as well as fishing with his beloved friend, Mr. John Elsner. He was known as Papa Calvin “Pok”, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Omelia Herron Culpepper; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Rogers of Carnesville; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Rhonda Culpepper of Carnesville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Culpepper of Toccoa and David and Betty Culpepper of Carnesville; grandchildren, Christie (Clint) Garrison, Kayla (Britt) Richards, Shane (Nichole) Culpepper and Whitney Culpepper; great-grandchildren, Charlie Garrison, Caden Garrison, Colton Garrison, Wesley Richards, Landon Richards, Sohpia Culpepper and Madison Culpepper; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 4, 2018, 2 O’clock p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with The Reverend Joey Stewart and The Reverend Dr. Tommy Childress officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Wayne Reynolds, Shane Culpepper, David Rogers, Britt Richards, Clint Garrison and Wayne Herron. The following gentlemen will serve as honorary pallbearers, Charlie Garrison, John Elsner, Eugene Barns, Donald Reese, Jack Goolsby and Darrell Hortman.
The family will be at the home on Old Mize Road and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Calvin Freeman Culpepper.
