Mr. Robert H. “Bob” Watson, age 92, of Oakwood passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at The Waterford at Oakwood,.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Rev. Earl Pirkle will officiate. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 27, 2018 and 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Bob was born on November 20, 1926 in Jackson County, Georgia. He was the oldest son of the late John H. & Maude Key Watson. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Carole Watson Allan; brother, Floyd Watson; and sisters, Gussie Watson and Ellaree Watson Dearman.
Most of his life was spent in Hall County, Georgia, where he graduated as Salutatorian from Lyman Hall High School. Following graduation, Bob served in the United States Navy during WWII. Afterwards he had a 47 year career in the office machine and furniture business with Georgia Office Equipment Company. Bob was an active member of Central Baptist Church for 65 years and enjoyed playing softball in the Church league. Bob will be remembered for his fun loving spirit and for his love of the outdoors, fishing, softball and homemade ice cream. He set an excellent example of what it meant to be a good man, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He loved his family and enjoyed teaching the grandchildren to play pool, ping pong and softball.
Bob is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Coker Watson of Oakwood; daughter & son-in-law, Anne & Randy Smith; son-in-law, Mark Allan; grandchildren, Jennifer & Scott Gibbs, Bobby Ward & Matt Dolloff, Jeff & Diana Ward, Scott & Sarah Allan and Katie & Dylan Sample; brothers, Paul Watson and Dean Watson; sister, Mildred Nicholson; sister-in-law, Sarah Ragsdale; great-grandchildren, Zack, David, Freddie, Tyler, Erick, Dylan, Anna-Kate and Jayden; and several special nephews, nieces and other relatives and long-time friends.
The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers of The Waterford, Pruitt Health and Homestead Hospice for the special attention and care given to Bob during the last few months.
