Mary Kathryn “Mama Better” Ledbetter, age 99, of Cumming, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018. Mama Better was the oldest member of New Harmony Baptist Church. She was a pillar in the community, a mother to all, enjoyed life and loved her family and everyone she met. She was the past Worthy Matron of the Ducktown Eastern Star. Mama Better received a Service Award for her volunteering and serving the community in Forsyth County in her late 80’s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Atwood Ledbetter, Sr.; daughter, Sarah Frances Sexton; son-in-law, Hugh Elzey; as well as her parents, several brothers and a sister.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Doyle and Hellon Ledbetter of Douglasville, Lewis and Barbara Ledbetter of Cumming, Atwood and Lynda Ledbetter of Cumming; daughters and son-in-law, Patsy and Billy Holbrook of Cumming, Marsha Elzey of Cumming; son-in-law, Lamar Sexton of Cumming; brother, Emory Holbrook of Lakeland, FL; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Holbrook of Sandy Springs, Carolyn Holbrook of Atlanta, Nancy Holbrook of Canton; 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 27th at 2:00 pm at New Harmony Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Nix, Rev. Johnny Purcell, Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Rev. Jerry Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday from 10:00 am until hour of the service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in her memory to New Harmony Baptist Church WMU, c/o Jenny Pearson, 5610 Howard Road, Cumming, GA 30040.
