Joe Lee Banks, Sr., age 74 of Mt. Airy, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
Mr. Banks was born on January 7, 1944 to Estee and Daisy Dunn Banks of Mt. Airy, Georgia. He was employed by Georgia Power from June 1963 until his retirement and acted as a humanitarian of the community, helping anyone in need. He joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, Georgia at an early age. He served for a period of time as the chairman of the deacon board. One of his top accomplishments included a hit record “In The Know” by Theodore & The Clippers in which he played the bass guitar.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing, a faithful and devoted wife of 55 years, Winnie Smith Banks; sons, Joe (Angela) Banks of Alto, Georgia and Marion (Suzanne) Banks of Mt. Airy, Georgia; daughter, Lisa (Doug) Walker of Dacula, Georgia; 7 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Going home services are scheduled for 12 noon, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Oliver Dorsey, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 am until the service hour on Wednesday at the church.
