Fairy “Jackie” Gilliland Martin, 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Asbury House Hospice.
Jackie was born on October 8, 1928 in Belzoni, MS to James “Jim” Gilliland and Annie Bell Switzer Gilliland and was one of eight children. Jackie attended Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, GA. She was a homemaker and a former telephone operator with Bellsouth. She always put her love of God and family before herself, especially… with her grandchildren. We will miss her and her beautiful smile. She is preceded in death by husband, Dr. Lawrence “Larry” Martin; her parents, Jim and Annie Bell Gilliland; two sisters, Bobbie Jean Gilliland, Sue Gilliland Shelby; a brother, Oscar “Sonny” Gilliland.
She is survived by son, Chuck Martin of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter, Lisa M. Young of Hattiesburg, MS; two sisters, Betty Gilliland of Brookhaven, MS and Addie Gilliland Rutherford, Cleburne, TX; two brothers, James Gilliland of Trinity, AL and Robert (Betty) Gilliland of Anguilla, MS; one sister-in-law, Jeannine Gilliland of Como, MS; four grandchildren: Jessica and Joey Martin and Ronald and Tyler Young; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Dr. Eric Spivey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the service hour on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
