Mr. M.L. “John” Head, age 86, of Flowery Branch passed peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 11, 2018.
A Celebration/Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Mr. Head was born September 21, 1932 to the late Lois J. & Mamie Nash Head in Gainesville. Raised in Gainesville, after graduating Gainesville High School, he joined the U.S. Navy Submarine Service and served as an YN3 (SS) during the Korean War from 1951-1955. Upon returning home he went to University of Georgia Business School and obtained a Business Degree. He gained employment with Gainesville Water Dept for a short time and then hired on as City Marshal. During that time he met his loving wife Artis on the Gainesville square. They married in 1958 and recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Shortly after they wed, he went to work with the US Postal service for 32 years. There he worked his way from clerk/carrier to Post Master, where he retired as Post Master of Buford Ga.
Mr. Head is survived by his wife, Artis Head of Flowery Branch; son, Jon L. Head of Athens; daughter & son-in-law, Pamela & Mitch Shifflett of Flowery Branch; 3 grandchildren, Alec Freeman, Jon Luke Freeman and Jessica Payton Shifflett; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ervin W. Head and Glen “Sam” Head; and sisters, Reba Mollica and Inez Garner.
