Richard Leon Pingry

Obituary Date: Thursday, October 4, 2018

Richard Leon Pingry, 84, formerly of Buffalo Grove, IL, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at his Gainesville, GA home after an extended illness.

Richard was born and raised Chicago, IL, and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He completed the ROTC program and served in the Army Reserves. Richard spent most of his working life in insurance, having worked for three major firms.

Richard was born April 14, 1934 to the late Hobert and Ethel (Davis) Pingry. He married his high school sweetheart Joan (Phillips) in Chicago in 1954, who passed away in 2006. Richard married Doris Neely in 2008, and moved to Georgia.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Barbara Ellen, and first wife Joan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years, Doris Neely, loving children Kathryn, James and Steven (Beth), and adoring grandchildren William, Roxanne, Madeline, Angelina, Michael and Jonathan.

He will always be remembered as sharp minded, witty and light-hearted. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.  His retirement pursuits included gardening, traveling, photography and teddy bear collecting. He leaves us with one last question for all to ponder, “What do you do with a drunken sailor?”

A celebration of life will be planned in the Chicago area at a later date. For information and Condolences contact [email protected]
