Larry Taylor, age 69 of Mt. Airy, Georgia passed away on Friday, October 05, 2018.
Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on September 21, 1949, he was a son of the late Henry & Della Whitworth Taylor. Mr. Taylor served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Sergeant with Lee Arrendale State Prison after over 23 years of dedicated service. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post # 7720 where he was Past Post Commander, was the youngest veteran to ever serve as a District Commander for the State of Georgia in the late 1970s, and was a member of the American Legion Post # 84. Mr. Taylor was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan, who also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Taylor Allen, brothers, Norman Baker & Wayne Baker.
Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley Taylor of Mt. Airy, GA; step-son, Bradley Loudermilk of Mt. Airy, GA; special niece raised in the home and her children, Leta Lomax, Layleigh & Tylee; grandchildren, Chelsey Drinkard & Jaleah Allen both of Demorest, GA; Tanner Loudermilk of Clarkesville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Faye & Milas Anders of Eastanollee, GA; brother, Rick Taylor of Helen, GA; sisters-in-law & spouses, Pat Brock, Lerlene Dodd & Robert Ridley, all of Mt. Airy, GA; Jean Baker Loggins & Reynolds Loggins of Cornelia, GA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 08, 2018 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the Family Section of the Welcome Home Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army, Grant Reeves V.F.W. Post #7720, American Legion Post #84, and Rabun County D.A.V. Chapter #15.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 07, 2018.
