Georgiana White Stempien, age 92, of Buford, GA passed away Friday, October 5, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Leonard Stempien; son, Edward Stempien; and grandson, James Avery, III. Mrs. Stempien is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Meg and Jim Avery of Sugar Hill, Georgia and daughter, Kathleen Stempien of Snellville, Georgia. Mrs. Stempien was born on December 30, 1925 in Greenwich, Connecticut. She was a 1942 graduate of Greenwich High School in Greenwich, and she was a homemaker.
Mrs. Stempien was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in Duluth, Georgia. She was very active in Girl Scouts in Greenwich before she and her husband relocated to Buford, Georgia in 1986. She enjoyed living in Georgia and was an avid Braves fan and never missed listening to or watching a game. She was very fortunate to have the loving care of Calina and Monique, her caregivers at her personal care home in Buford for the past year. Mrs. Stempien was greatly loved and will be missed always by them and her family, but she is at peace now and reunited with her husband, son, and grandson.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church in Duluth with Father Jack Durkin serving as the Celebrant.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Girl Scouts of Connecticut, www.gsofct.org or mailed to 340 Washington St, Hartford, CT 06106.
