Mrs. Mamie Lynette Bell Young was born on October 19, 1937 in Statham, Georgia to Mr. Garfield Bell and Mrs. Dora Lee Bell. At an early age, her grandfather Mr. Frank Bell took her to church at First Baptist Church in Gainesville, Ga. where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized.
She married Mr. Frank Young and to their union was born Mrs. Barbara Jean Young Wilkins, Mr. Randy Young, Mr. Frankie Young, and Mrs. Lisa Young Sewell.
She attended Fair Street School and completed her secondary education at the Manpower Adult Learning Center. She later attended Lanier Technical College where she earned a degree in cosmetology. She furthered her cosmetology education and skills at Dudley University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Mrs. Mamie began her work history in the Gainesville poultry industry. She also worked at the Georgia Department of Public Health and the Georgia Department of Probation. In 1981, she opened Mamie’s Beauty Salon. During the many years of her operating her own salon, she afforded many hair stylists and barbers an opportunity to grow in their skill and cliental in the Gainesville community.
Mrs. Mamie also worked many years as a private caregiver. She began working at Peachtree Plantation Assisted Living in Oakwood, Ga. as a caregiver. In the past seventeen years, she was the resident cosmetologist until August of 2018.
She later joined Antioch Baptist Church and worked faithfully in the kitchen ministry. In the past three years she attended Guiding Light Ministries as a ministry partner.
Mrs. Mamie Young departed this life to rest in the Lord until that great Resurrection Day on Monday, October 1, 2018. She will always be remembered for her excellent cooking skills, her demonstration of compassionate hospitality to her family and friends, the family gatherings, her entertaining and fun-loving personality, her southern belle style, and her million dollar smile.
She is preceded in death by her Father Mr. Garfield Bell; Husband Mr. Frank Young, Brothers Rev. Verlyn (Shirley) Bell and Mr. Robert Lee (Mary) Bell, and Son Mr. Frankie Young.
She leaves to mourn her mother Mrs. Dora Lee ArnoldBell Nowells; Brother Mr. Frank (Ella) Bell (Savannah, GA), and her Sister Mrs. Marilyn Dixon (Braselton, GA); a Special Aunt Mrs. Hazel Mack (Middletown, OH), Aunts Mrs. Paris Mayweather (Winder, Ga.) and Mrs. Annie Ruth McCoy (Cleveland, OH).
Her Daughter Mrs. Barbara Jean (Rick) Wilkins; (Grandchildren) Mr. Vincent (Hope) Wilkins, Ms. Jessica Wilkins, Mr. Justin Wilkins, Mr. Jeremy Wilkins. Her Son Mr. Randy (Stephanie) Young; (Grandchildren) Ms. Paige Young, Mrs. Paisely (Jimi) Jones, Ms. Pascha Young, Ms. Pamesha Young. Grandaughter Mrs. Jazmine (Patrick) Blakely; and her Daughter Mrs. Lisa (John) Sewell; (Grandchildren) Mr. Nicholas Sewell, Mr. Brandon Sewell, Mr. JC Sewell, and Mr. Damien Dowell, as well as her beloved companion Mr. Edgar Glenn.
Mrs. Mamie Young was a loving great-grandmother to 18 great children (Breonna, Harmony, Vincent Jr., Shamiya, Brandon, Kourtney, Skylar, Keontrey, Keman, Keiad, Malaysia, Jeremiah, Janiyah, Jimonte, Joshua, Mia, Zoe, and Patrick, Jr.) She was a loving aunt to a host of nieces and nephews, a beloved family member and friend. We cherish her memory, celebrate her life, and we’ll love her eternally Mrs. Mamie L. Young.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1010 Mill Street, Gainesville, GA 30501 at 11:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church between the hours of 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
