Dwight Kilby

Obituary Date: Monday, September 24, 2018

There was a grand celebration in heaven on September 24, 2018, as Dwight Kilby, age 74, entered into the realm of Glory.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2018 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Douglas Sherrill.  Interment will follow at Oakwood City Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jimmy Hunter.  The family will receive friends 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

There to greet him was his father, Ferd; mother, Oza; brothers, Coyt, Furman; Carl Sr. with his wife Dorothy & their eldest son Carl Jr. together with their grandson Jason; brother Claude with his wife Evelyn and their son-in-law Gene Thompson; Curtis with his wife Nancy; Father-in-law Roy Farrow & Mother-in-law Octa Farrow of Cordele; Brothers-in-laws Willis and Ray Farrow of Cordele and many other kinfolk together with a host of friends.

He was delayed a short while here on this earth; and He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Jeanene Farrow Kilby and the rest of his family, sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Kay Kilby of Hall County, Reginald and Elaine Kilby of Hall County; sister, Brenda Sue Kilby of Rabun County; brother Fred Kilby of Rabun; Sister & brother-in-law Tina & Carol Lee Jr. of Clayton; Brothers & sisters-in-law Jimmy & Juanita Kilby of Mountain City; Delano & Harlene Kilby of Tiger; sisters-in-law, Genell Kilby of Clayton and Ann Farrow of Cordele; Brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Sammy and Gay Farrow of Cordele, James and Joy Farrow of Cordele, five grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Josh, Emily, & Hasten Kilby and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and others.

The best description of him as a husband, daddy, papaw, brother, uncle, cousin, or friend, is to be found in Proverbs 20:7. He was truly "just a man walking in his integrity, and his children are blessed after him."

He followed after his God given talent in engineering and surveying for his life's profession; working on many special projects, never being satisfied with a status quo…always thirsting to learn and do more. He was blessed to have been involved in so many areas of interest throughout his life. He always placed others before himself and was consistent in his giving of credit and encouragement to others as he promoted their successes and accomplishments.

God, family, neighbors and friends was his church and came first in his life as he was driven by his principles and purpose in life…"To serve others."

Among his hobbies and interest was preserving and restoring the American chestnut tree. He also loved and appreciated nature, political science, and he maintained an active commitment and dedication to his profession, keeping and sustaining an exhilarating link with his professional organizations. He also enjoyed writing on a number of thought-provoking subjects, including political science; he loved Steven Spielberg’s movie “Lincoln”, he says that the history of American politics hadn’t shaped many Lincolns, but it had produced a number of impressive people; principled people with integrity, and that’s the reasoning for searching to find the gem  hidden within politics!

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice in Dwight’s name.
