J.R. Whitt

J.R. Whitt, 84, of Cumming passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018.  The epitome of a self-made man, J.R. excelled at everything he did.  Beginning his career with Harrington Manufacturing, he had a long career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. J.R. then founded Whitt’s Nursery specializing in landscaping, horticulture and operating a tree farm.  J.R. was quick-witted and always loved making others laugh; you always had to listen closely or miss something funny.  One of the original “Neutered Hogs”, J.R. loved traveling with his many friends.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Laura Whitt of Cumming; son, Ryan Whitt of Atlanta; granddaughter, Kristen Graves of Dawsonville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lanny Reich officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or KARE for Kids in Dawsonville.
