Albert was born in New Britain, Connecticut to Austrian immigrants. Albert devoted years of study to classical music, graduating from Boston University and Brandeis University, then continuing with additional study in Munich at the Hochschule Fur Musik. Albert was a conductor for the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Chamber Orchestra, as well as other groups in Florida. He was an accomplished violinist, violist, and symphonic conductor. He also composed several musical works, including a symphony and an opera.
In addition to his work in music, Albert was conversant in seven eastern and western European languages, in addition to Japanese and Russian. He did translation work in many languages and then directed language schools in the United States and Canada. Later, he instructed for Miami-Dade Continuing Education and retired from there.
Albert moved to Gainesville six years ago and enjoyed his numerous friends at Smoky Springs.
Albert was predeceased by his mother, Anna Redl Schardl, father Albert Schardl, and sisters Ann Schardl and Eleanor Corriveau. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Alison Schardl and Larry Rice of Tallahassee, Florida, son and daughter-in-law TivonSchardl and Dana Morse Drukker of Austin, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Christopher Schardl and Kuey-chu Chen of Lexington, Kentucky, son and daughter-in-law Nicholas Schardl and Tamra Greeson-Schardl of Gainesville, Georgia, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and James Percy of South Windsor, Connecticut, sister Frances Lecco of Glastonbury, Connecticut, grandchildren Anisa Schardl of Northampton, Massachusetts, Tao Benjamin Schardl of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Evan Drukker-Schardl of Baltimore, Maryland, and Stuart Schardl of Gainesville, Georgia, great-grandchildren Geordie Hine and Alistair Schardl and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses appreciation for the excellent care provided Albert by Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a local charity, or to Florida Youth Orchestra, Renaissance Institute of Music or The People's Music School.
