John Hunter Stevenson

John Hunter Stevenson, age 89, of Gainesville passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 28, 2018.  He was born May 26, 1929 in Lovelady, North Carolina to William Joseph and Nannie Moore Stevenson.

John retired from Norton after 20 years.  He volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels.  He has been an active member of the Korean War Veterans group.

John was married to Dolores Grube Stevenson of Warwick, Rhode Island for 53 years prior to her passing.  They had six children together.  The family has lived in Gainesville since 1961 when John transferred to work for Chicopee Manufacturing.  He was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

John loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, meeting with his Korean War Veterans Group and attending his grandchildren’s many activities.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James E. Stevenson and William Joe Stevenson.

Mr. Stevenson is survived by his daughters, Deborah Stevenson of Flowery Branch; Kathleen (Lonnie) Imlay of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Teri (Tim) Morgan of Flowery Branch; sons, John (Janice) Stevenson of Flowery Branch, Tom (Debi) Stevenson of Flowery Branch and Tim (Teresa) Stevenson of Gainesville; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces & nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home.  Rev. Earl Pirkle will officiate.  The family will receive family and friends from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
