Dell Anne Morgan Thomas

Mrs. Dell Anne Morgan Thomas, 80, of Eastanollee, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at her home surrounded by her devoted family.

Mrs. Thomas was born January 3, 1938 in Rome, NY to Anson Roy and Dorothy Agnes Mahoney Morgan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Virgil Delano Thomas; her parents and brother, William R. (Beverly) Morgan, Boston, Mass.

Survivors include a daughter Jennifer and William Mercure of Toccoa; two sons, Jeffrey and Mary Grace Thomas of Lawrenceville; and William Thomas and Kathy Spivey of Statesboro; eleven grandchildren, Christopher, Megan, and Shawn (Lindsey) Fitzgerald; Rocco (fiancé Shannon Moore), Sabrina, Anthony, Dominic, and Vincent Thomas; Drew (Jessica), Zachary, and Ryan Thomas; two great-grandchildren Kaden Johnson and Ryann Fitzgerald; one brother David (Michelle) Morgan of Rome, NY. She is also survived by several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She met her husband at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY, and they were married in 1960. Dell was the epitome of the military wife, supporting her husband and raising her family during Virgil’s 23-year military career with multiple deployments.   She enjoyed her travels and assignments to many countries around the world and their retirement at “Green Acres Farm” in Stephens County. Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was loved by all and “Nana” to many, including her grandchildren and the “adopted grandchildren” from the Haines’, Hopkins’, and Peeples’ families.    

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Eastanollee with Father Paul Flood officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Fellowship Hall, Toccoa, with the family receiving friends from Noon to 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Building Fund, 231 Rothell Rd. Ext., Toccoa, GA 30577, or Hospice of Northeast GA Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Pkwy., Ste. 222, Gainesville, GA 30501.
